    Isabelle Anne Madeleine Huppert (French pronunciation: ​[izabɛl yˈpɛʁ]; born 16 March 1953) is a French actress of stage and screen who has appeared in more than 90 film and television productions since 1971. She is the most nominated actress for the César Award, with 14 nominations.Huppert began her career on stage and appeared in her first film in 1972. She received her first César Award nomination for the 1975 film Aloïse. She won the BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer for the 1977 film The Lacemaker and the César Award for Best Actress for the 1995 film La Cérémonie. She has also twice won Best Actress at both the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival. At Cannes, she won for Violette Noziere (1978) and La Pianiste (2001), while at Venice, she won for Story of Women (1988) and La Cérémonie (1995). Her other films include Loulou (1980), La Séparation (1994), 8 Women (2002), Gabrielle (2005) and Amour (2012). She has also done some English-language film projects such as Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate (1980), David O. Russell's I Heart Huckabees (2004) and Ned Benson's The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby (2013).For her stage work in France, Huppert is a five-time Molière Award nominee. She made her London stage debut in 1996 in the title role of the play Mary Stuart, and her New York stage debut in a 2005 production of 4:48 Psychosis. In 2014, she returned to the New York stage to star opposite Cate Blanchett in a Sydney Theatre Company production of The Maids, at the New York City Center theatre. She was made a Chevalier of the Legion d'honneur in 1999 and was promoted to officer in 2009.
